We have listed some references below that might be helpful if you want to read a little more about the topics discussed at this site. A plethora of information can be obtained from any academic library by searching under "FT-IR" and "remote sensing" but be aware that these terms are quite broad and include a lot of techniques that don't have much of a bearing on the air monitoring techniques discussed here. Also, a complete list of our publications can be found in the personal vitaes of :
"An Introduction to Open-Path FT-IR Atmospheric Monitoring," T.L. Marshall, C.T. Chaffin, R.M. Hammaker and W.G. Fateley, Environmental Science & Technology, 28, 224A-232A (1994). A good introduction to active open-path FT-IR monitoring.
"FT-IR and Fugitive Emissions," T.L. Marshall, C.T. Chaffin, M.D. Tucker, and W.G. Fateley, Environmental Testing & Analysis, 3(3), 40-48 (1994). Discusses fugitive emissions monitoring with FT-IR and presents data from monitoring performed at a land farming operation.
"Infrared Analysis of Volcanic Plumes: A Case Study in the Application of Open-Path FT-IR Monitoring Techniques," C.T. Chaffin, T.L Marshall, W.G. Fateley, R.M. Hammaker, Spectroscopy Europe, 7/3, 18-24 (1995). Discusses active and passive spectral data reduction techniques in the context of an investigation of volcanic plumes.
Suggested texts:
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry, P.R. Griffiths and J.A. deHaseth, John Wiley and Sons, 1986. A comprehensive text on FT-IR instrumentation and techniques. Peter Griffiths is an FT demigod. He's also a pretty good darts player.
Air Monitoring by Spectroscopic Techniques, M.W. Sigrist, Ed,. John Wiley and Sons, 1994. Discusses a multitude of related air monitoring techniques such as LIDAR, DOAS, etc.
