About Us

Founded in 1993 by Charles Chaffin and Tim Marshall, AeroSurvey began as a pioneering effort in advanced spectroscopic technology. Both founders earned a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Kansas State University, where they contributed to the development of open-path FTIR systems through research funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army. Initially, AeroSurvey focused on industrial and environmental monitoring but soon began supporting research in advanced sensor development for defense applications.

In 2006, Tim relocated to Northern Virginia to support AeroSurvey’s customer base in that area and serve as a Test Director for remote sensing programs. Charles remained in Kansas, driving innovation in test target development and scenario design.

In 2020, Tim and Charles decided to expand AeroSurvey into a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers, bringing on specialists in biochemistry, electrical engineering, image science, mechanical engineering, and chemistry. Along with part-time student researchers and a dedicated support staff, this team is committed to maintaining AeroSurvey’s 30-year reputation for a hands-on, no excuses, get it done approach to meeting their customer’s needs.
